Charles Watson was a Manson Family member who participated in the infamous Tate-LaBianca murders in 1969. He was born on December 2, 1945, in Dallas, Texas, and was raised in a troubled family environment. Watson dropped out of high school and moved to California, where he met Charles Manson and became involved with the Manson Family cult.
Watson actively participated in the murders of Sharon Tate, who was eight months pregnant at the time, and four others at her residence on August 9, 1969. The following night, he also took part in the murder of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. He played a significant role in the planning and execution of the murders, exhibiting extreme violence and brutality during the attacks.
Watson was arrested along with other Manson Family members in October 1969. He initially denied his involvement but later admitted to his participation in the murders during the trial. In 1971, he was convicted on seven counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder. Watson was sentenced to death, but his sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment when the death penalty was briefly abolished in California.
During his time in prison, Charles Watson became a born-again Christian and turned his life around. He earned a Bachelor's degree and became an ordained minister. He has since written several books about his experiences and his transformation.
Despite being eligible for parole, Watson has been repeatedly denied release and remains incarcerated at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego County, California.
